Calendar
I have had several students ask me about dates regarding solo tryouts, concerts and things of that nature. Our calendar is always available on our website www.csemusic.weebly.com and is always up to date. The calendar was also distributed with audition information if you are looking for a hard copy. I am also attaching at the end of this document a calendar of our current and tentative events for your reference.
Solo Tryouts 11/10-11/12
We will be having solo tryouts next week, 11/10 for Tuesday members, 11/11 for Wednesday members, and 11/12 for anyone who was sick on those days. The songs that contain solos are Where are you Christmas, O Holy Night, and Deck the Rooftop. The lyrics for all of these songs, with solos in bold are on our website as well. Auditions will occur after each days rehearsal time. We will have the students go one at a time and in previous years we have been done no later than 5:15. Your student may audition for more than one solo, but they will potentially only be awarded one solo. Solo results will be emailed that following weekend.
Turkey Break - No Rehearsal
Due to school not being in session on Wednesday and Thursday of the week, we will not be having rehearsal on Tuesday as well to keep things even. We will resume practice as normal the following week, Dec. 1-3.
Women’s Club Performance
On Thursday December 3, the CVC will be performing for the annual winter luncheon of the Cedar Springs Women’s Club. This performance will occur during the day right around noon. We will be having lunchtime arrangements be made with the cooks at CV. Your student will have lunch as normal, but it will be at a different time is all to accommodate our schedule. There is no special dress required for this performance. We will be walking both to and from the event, which is at the American Legion in downtown Cedar Springs.
CD Recording
On Thursday December 3, we will be recording our winter selections for the year. This will be taking place of our normal rehearsal and will run over in time, no later than 5:30 PM. If your child does have to leave at the normal 4:30 time, or before we are done, please let your child know so they can be dismissed at the appropriate time. If you come in to the building to pick up your child, please do not come into or knock on the music room door while you hear singing, as we are recording. Once a song has stopped for about 10 seconds, you may enter and pick up your child. A free copy will distributed before winter break.
Winter Concert - December 12
Our winter concert will be at the Cedar Springs High School Auditorium at 7:00 PM on Saturday December 12. This concert will be in junction with our brand new sister group at Beach. All students are required to stay for both portions of the concert, CVC and Beach, as we will be performing a combined number at the end of the concert. Concert Dress will be solid pattern shirt with a collar for gentlemen, and nd dress slacks (no cargo pants or jeans), ladies may also adhere to that code or they may choose to wear a nice dress or skirt. The goal is to not stick out from anyone else and to look sharp! I am still formulating call time as this is the first time we have had two groups meeting at the same time, but I can assure you it will be no earlier than 6 PM and 6:30 PM (unless your child has solo and then it will be earlier than everyone else). The full concert should be done right around 8:00 PM.
December 17 - Perform student body, Metron*, Winter Celebration
We will be performing for the CV student body around 3 PM in the gymnasium. If you wish to attend, you are more than welcome. I am still trying to reach and make arrangements for us to perform at Metron, the assisted living center located adjacent to the school grounds after school. If we perform, upon our return we will be having a end of season celebration the music room. If we do not perform at Metron, the celebration will occur right after school. Either way, the celebration will be lasting until 6:00 PM. Snacks will not be provided this year, but your child is more than welcome to bring in a simple snack like a small bag of chips to enjoy and maybe share with a few friends. Pop will not be allowed, but bottled water is completely acceptable. We will be singing some of our favorite songs, listening to our recording, playing games, watching a family approved winter movie (no higher than PG) and just enjoying each others company. This celebration is of course optional and staying for the entire duration is not required neither.
